Who's gonna drive you home?

Note: My title comes from one of the songs this band has did a cover of. Check out Deftones’ version of The Cars’ “Drive” song. 🙂 I’m sure you’ll enjoy listening to it too.

November 2010, I saw the news break online that Deftones would be having an Asian tour next year, or as they commonly referred to, a “Pacific Rim tour” in 2011. Manila, Philippines was one of the places they would stop over and play a show for the Filipino audience. Of course during that time, only a short amount of information was released to the public to get some hype and attention.

After realizing that Pacific Rim was also the same name of the Incubus tour they had here years ago, I was OMG-ing all over online and trying to calm myself and not panic at the same time because, good god it’s way too early! It’s only November and the show’s not until February for fuck’s sake. Calm down and post on tumblr, twitter, facebook the news. SPREAD TEH WORD~!

I remember the poster had a “special guest” note in it. Many people had their guesses and speculations on who might that “special guest” be. My guess was Brandon Boyd (lol, IKR!).. Oh, I know it’s pretty impossible.. but there might be a big possibility since Deftones and Incubus are friends anyway. MAYBE they’re the ones who convinced Chino and Co. to add MNL to the list, LOLJK.

ALSO! I’d love to hear Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) live, if you’ve heard the live version of that song with Brandon, you would understand why I want him to be here in Manila performing that song along with his buddy Chino.

A couple of weeks (-December) later, it was revealed that Urbandub’s that “special guest” that was mentioned in the poster. I wasn’t that crushed (emotionally), jsyk, I’m like “oh okay, no biggie.” The priority here was to see Deftones. 🙂 You have no idea how badly I wanted to watch them live here, ask my 16 year old self.

Here’s the final poster plus details of the show:

Deftones in Manila Event Poster

You can purchase tickets at any TicketWorld outlets. Check out their website for outlets close to your area! I’d get them at one of the NBS outlets because one of them is close to my school, so less traveling time, yeah.

Lol, I also did some ~*shirt designs*~ but unfortunately not many people liked them but I’m still posting them for the sake of looking back at this years later and uh, think if I did any progress from this.

Year of the Black Rainbow

Year of the black rainbow

Apparently, Coheed & Cambria has a new album out.. and a world tour Manila concert to complete the whole new-album-therefore-we-have-to-tour-to-promote-it mood.

I’ve had this album sitting in my harddrive for a couple of weeks now.. maybe for a month even, but I’ve just started listening to it recently. I wasn’t expecting much from it because their last album (No World for Tomorrow), for me, wasn’t that good. Maybe it’s my own fault in the first place for not really listening to it.. from what I remember, I only listened to the album 2-3x and after not getting any feel from it, I gave up.

Photobucket
At that time, I was still attached to Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness album.

* I copy/pasted the album name, lol, I really don’t like albums with really (not exaggerating, as you can see) long titles. See FOB and PATD’s earlier albums and you’ll know what I mean.. oops, I forgot to include Mayday Parade on the list as well.

But this album, Year of the Black Rainbow, seems to have proved me wrong. A random song plays from the album, I have no idea what the title is, but it’s good. Same with the next 5 songs. Good in a sense that is upbeat (but not the pop-upbeat type, of course), loud, etc. No good with describing music, sry. It sounds similar to Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One but with an added flavor. If that album was 2x powerful, loud, heavy on riffs and the lyrics, multiply that by 2 more and you have Year of the Black Rainbow.

Part of the reason why I enjoy Coheed & Cambria’s music is the lyrics they have in their songs. If you should ask, my favorite song from them is Everything Evil. My favorite lyric?

Blood hungry
Cannibalistic unfit
Family ties

I’ll give myself a couple more soundtrip sessions of this album for it to sink in to my system, hopefully just in time before they come here and do a show for us Filipinos!

C&C Manila poster

Yup, they’re going here in July. That gives me a month to save up? I hope so. I have classes on the day the show falls on, I want to be near on the front row. 😐 Ack. Shit, I haven’t bought a ticket yet.. should I be worried? I was thinking of buying it like 2 weeks before the concert day, and it just hit me now.. what if tickets were sold out by that time? 😐

The Long Wait is Over

I will shoot people who hasn’t heard of this band. HAHA! Jk. Exemptions only to the foreign readers of my blog. 🙂 I know a lot of people, especially the ‘hardcore’ fans of OPM music have waited LONG enough for this kind of thing to happen. Who knew it would be even possible?? Well, as long as we’re alive, there’s hope and nothing’s impossible (Hahah, whut?!). The news first started circulating as rumors in the internet world1 and no one was really sure if the news was correct or even reliable to be given a 2nd look at.

I myself didn’t pay any attention to it when I saw it, my initial thought was ‘When will these fans move on and just enjoy the new music by the members of the Eraserheads? Can’t they just respect them and move on?’ Yeah that sounds harsh and ignoramus of me but I seem to be apathetic with the whole reunion issue of this band because it just never stops. There are people who still wishes for them to get back together and make ‘real music’ again. I don’t know if I’m one of them but I’m ‘over it’. I stopped hoping and if I want my dose of Eraserheads, I’d play and listen to their songs on my iPod — problem/sentimental shit solved. Oh God, please don’t throw tomatoes at me or something.

So after a week after knowing this rumor to be true, I’m still not that convinced.. I’m still “Oh. Okay. Big yey!” But no reactions like the ff.: OMG THEY ARE GETTING TOGETHER AGAIN, I MUST BE IN FRONT111!!!!11!!, I WILL SAVE MY MONEY FOR REALZZZ!

Official summary of the whole concert + rumors on PhilMusic.com’s article — The Eraserheads Reunite – And this time, they’re Smokin’ . I’m really lazy to elaborate everything and I feel like a broken record keeping on saying the same thing, haha!

The gist of the concert? It’s all on the poster! Which you can use to advertise, if you want to use that. 😛 Don’t worry I will be making more of those, promise! I’m just looking for good photos of the band. Since I can’t draw and I can only work with photos, lol! Sucks to be me. Good enough for a ‘medium for advertising’, no?

I want to go but just thinking about the crowd and the method of acquiring a ticket, I feel that I’d be having a miserable time. Lol. Sure it’ll be fun. C’mon, this is THE band of all bands here in the Philippines! 😛 One night only.. yeah, that would be pretty cool to see, I’d most definitely feel lucky if I get the opportunity to see them. But yeah, it’s not only me who wants them, there’s the other 999,999 people all over the world.

Everything’s okay in my side of the world… been raining a lot lately. Rain is supposed to make people feel down and sad but I’m feeling happy and sad at the same time when it rains, haha! Crazy much? 😛 There’s a new WP version out, I don’t think I’ll be upgrading anytime soon. Oh I rly want a new haircut, haha! The straight, relaxed long hair needs to get out!

  1. Okay that’s a link from my friend in Multiply and I think she got all of it, so just click if you want to know the rumor, lol ↩
